Terms of use
Last updated 31 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use Oriva. They are written to be read. By creating an account or paying for Oriva, you agree to them.
1.Who we are
Oriva is built and operated by Smaks Enterprise (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2024/634827/07, a private company registered in South Africa. The website is oriva.tech and the application is app.oriva.tech. Write to us at support@oriva.tech.
How we handle personal information is set out in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
2.Your account
Give accurate details and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account. One family account holds up to 4 children.
A learner under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian to approve Oriva before they can use it. That approval also covers these terms and the privacy policy. A parent or guardian who signs up for their child agrees to them on the child's behalf.
3.What is free
Creating an account is free. So are the career assessment and its results. On this website, the deadline tool and the Grade 11 marks check are free and need no account. Everything else needs paid access.
4.Paid access: R 100 once, for each learner
- R 100, paid once through PayFast, gives one learner everything Oriva does: until 31 January 2027 in matric, or for 12 months from the day you pay in Grade 10 or 11.
- In Grade 10 or 11 the 12 months carry on into the next grade. When they end, the rest of Grade 12 is its own payment, and what you've saved carries over.
- Each child is unlocked on their own, for the same once-off price.
- There is no subscription and no debit order, and nothing renews by itself.
- When access ends, the paid parts of Oriva pause. Before that, we ask whether to keep what has been saved for that learner.
- We never see or store your card details: PayFast handles the payment.
- Someone else can pay for a learner, through a private link the learner sends them. Paying gives that person no account and no access to the learner's work.
5.Refunds
We refund a payment if you were charged twice for the same learner, if Oriva stops or loses a main part of what you paid for, and where South African law gives you a right to a refund. The refund policy says how this works.
6.Changes to Oriva
We keep improving Oriva, so features will change. If we stop offering Oriva, or take away a main part of what you paid for, before your access ends, we will tell you and refund the unused time in proportion. We work to keep Oriva available, but it can be unavailable at times for maintenance or because something has gone wrong.
7.What Oriva is, and is not
- Oriva organises and tracks. You submit each application on the institution's own portal. Oriva does not apply for you and has no influence over any admissions or funding decision.
- Meeting a published minimum is not an offer: universities rank applicants, and places are limited. Oriva does not promise a place, a bursary or a career.
- The career assessment is a career interest assessment based on the Holland/RIASEC framework. It is a structured way to open the conversation, not a psychological assessment.
- Dates, fees and requirements come from each institution's published information, and they change. Grade 10 and 11 learners see expected dates and the latest published year's requirements, labelled as such. Always confirm on the institution's own website before you rely on them.
- Results are only as accurate as the marks and details entered. Oriva is not affiliated with any university, college or bursary provider.
8.The AI helpers
The motivation-letter draft, the explanation of a course match and the reading of an assessment result are generated by AI. They can be wrong. Read and check anything AI drafts before you use it: you are responsible for what you submit. It is not professional, legal or financial advice.
9.Your content
What you put into Oriva stays yours. You allow us to store and process it only to run Oriva for your family, as the privacy policy describes. You can delete your account and everything in it from settings. Only enter other people's personal information if you are allowed to.
10.Using Oriva fairly
Please don't:
- share, sell or lend your access outside your family;
- try to get into other people's accounts or data, or test, probe or break Oriva's security;
- copy or scrape Oriva's content or catalogues in bulk;
- use Oriva, or its AI helpers, to produce anything unlawful, harmful or dishonest.
If an account is used this way we may suspend or close it, telling you why where we can. Closing an account does not by itself bring a refund outside the refund policy.
11.Responsibility
As far as the law allows, our total responsibility to you for anything to do with Oriva is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or any other South African law.
12.Changes to these terms, and the law
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with it, and we will tell you before an important change takes effect. A change will not take away what you have already paid for.
These terms are governed by South African law. If something goes wrong, please write to support@oriva.tech first, so we can try to put it right.
